Social Computing: the artist and the social media-networking will be presented on July 6th at 6:00 pm in the frame of # SHU2016 – Social Hackathon Umbria 2016.
Social Computing is the update / continuation of a previous research on the art, the web and the social media curated by VIAINDUSTRIAE in 2013 and first published in 2014 with the title “Public Computing”. Social Computing continues the path of the exhibition of 2014 “TAPC” the Artist’s PC technology and public computing at Le Botanique in Brussels, then presented as a multimedia installation that showed the different artistic practices dedicated to net-art.
That display was conceived in 8 sections for artistic intervention topics on the web (download / upload, system / system failure resources, excel-lence / free software, online / offline, post-internet, newsletter / daily poetry lettering, save and share, user’s interaction). For each section there were three selected artists working with different media: web art projects, video projections, work-stations, “digital” publications, screenshots and a multi-sensory interactive installation.
Now the context of the Social Hackathon in Foligno is explored and addresses the issue of social web platforms that comes to different ways and with different approaches used and experienced by international contemporary artists. The publication “Social Computing” is concieved as a manual for an alternative use of PC platforms, such as best practices for users while browsing or sharing. This volume is added to the previous one (Public Computing) and will also be available in a package that combines the two outputs of Brussels and Foligno.
