SkyMan is a browseable on line portrait of a man watching clouds passing over his head “depicted” through a tool I called “Query Fill”. Instead of having lines of pixels generating the portrait, “Query Fill” allows users to create the work through images taken from search engine query results (it means that lines of static pixels are substituted by lines of images, each one resized to a 1×1 pixels size. Being the colors of these 1×1 pixels resized images always different because derived from color percentages in the resized image, the final look of a “line” is not always the same. It changes colors of course, but when this line describe something more complex like a man’s profile, this profile doesn’t look always crispy and the same like when drawn in pure black). The man’s profile is filled with 1×1 pixels images returned by queries entered by the visitors of the website. The outline of the clouds is filled by images gathered from SKY News website.
Because of real time image finding process, this portrait tells us about our own life, and it somehow gets old as the famous Dorian Grey’s Portrait by Oscar Wilde.
